This position is located at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training
Center in Yoder, KS.Hutchinson Campus The Hutchinson Campus, a part
of the University of Kansas, is located near Hutchinson, Kansas.
Reporting to KU through KU Lifelong & Professional Education, the
Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings
including two multi-story residential student dormitories. The
Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training
Center (KLETC). KLETC serves as the central agency for all law
enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages an $8.1
million annual budget, 62 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more
than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 10,000
students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs.
KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in
Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs
throughout each fiscal year. Many KLETC basic training and
continuing education programs are conducted in a high risk and high
liability environment (firearms, use of force, emergency vehicle
operations driver training, defense tactics, and search and
seizure).The campus, in coordination with KU Lifelong &
Professional Education, Lawrence Campus leadership and other KU
offices, also oversees high-level administrative functions,
including student discipline, academic issues, legislative funding
requests, information technology and telecommunications planning,
strategic planning, and external grants. KLETC basic training
students reside on campus in residential housing dormitories. KLETC
operates 24-hours a day, Sunday afternoon thru Friday
evening.Programs developed on the Hutchinson Campus leverage the
resources of KLETC and expand the training mission for the Kansas
criminal justice community. This is a growing aspect of the
Hutchinson Campus mission.PCE OverviewKU Lifelong & Professional
Education (LPE), operates in a self-supporting business environment
while aligning with KU's academic, research and public service
missions. KULPE works collaboratively with all KU academic schools
and departments to provide continuing professional education.
Lifelong & Professional Education programs serve all 105 Kansas
counties, 50 U.S. states, and 61 nations. Position Overview The
incumbent will assume the responsibility for the maintenance of the
KLETC vehicle fleet consisting of 25 traditional vehicles (16 cars
for the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, 8 cars for the travel
fleet, and a 1-ton pickup truck), dump truck, one mini truck, two
tractors and three industrial grasshopper mowers. Additionally, as
a member of the maintenance team, the incumbent will assist with
general maintenance as directed. The position reports to the
Maintenance Manager.Normal Work Hours:7-4 Monday - Friday with
occasional nights and weekends. This position is required to work
50% - Troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of cars, trucks, vans,
medium and heavy-duty trucks, tractors and specialized construction
and landscape equipment. Operation and repair of both gasoline and
diesel fueled vehicles and equipment. May perform auto body repair
and painting. Establish a preventative maintenance program.30% -
Serve as a member of the maintenance team, assisting as directed by
the Maintenance Manager with all aspects of facilities maintenance,
including but not limited to snow removal, landscaping, painting,
light construction, pickup and delivery of supplies, and classroom
setup.10% - Maintain an inventory of parts, tires, fuel and other
equipment to minimize unavailability of fleet vehicles. Maintain
the vehicle fleet inventory with accurate accounting of mileage,
VIN, assigned tags, etc. Assist with the purchase and disposal of
fleet vehicles.10% - Maintain all vehicles in a clean and orderly
condition, washing and vacuuming interiors as necessary.
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Three years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanic
and/or auto body repair. Associate's degree or vocational school
certification may be substituted for one year of the required
- Valid Kansas driver's license or the ability to obtain one
within 60 days of employment.
- Ability to successfully acquire ASE certifications A1 through
A8 within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds constantly and up to
50 pounds occasionally with or without accommodation
- Must be able to work on ladders.
- Physical strength sufficient to stand the strain of working
long hours at maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work under a variety of extremes of temperature and
weather, both inside and outdoors.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed.
- Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours emergencies
- Willingness and ability to report to work during declared
periods of inclement weather.
- Three years of experience managing the maintenance on a fleet
- Maintenance experience in large residential or commercial
- ASE certifications A1 through A8.
