JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: MASTER ASSEMBLER, ASSEMBLER "A" AND ASSEMBLER "B"

Job Grade: S3, S2, AND S1

Primary Functions:

B -

General assembly of parts by means of rivets, screws, adhesives, or other general fastening methods. Ability to perform three or more assembly functions. Able to read and interpret all production orders with a minimum amount of assistance. Perform assembly functions within the allotted time standards.

Additional for A -

Complete the assembly of the finished product within the assigned department, i.e., engine, frame, cab, final line, and bus departments in the manufacturing of school buses. Complete working knowledge of all assembly or production aspects in work center. Complete all productions in work center and train others.

Additional for Master -

Individuals assigned to this classification will be those that through experience, self-motivation, and ability, have obtained a high level of expertise and experience within a specific area of production.

Use extensive experience, skill and expertise to perform all jobs within final assembly as required. Able to communicate these attributes to other workers for enhanced training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English

Close attention to detail

Function with a minimal amount of supervision or no supervision.

Set work priorities to meet production goals as scheduled per assigned department.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those in contact on a day to day basis.

Meet minimum standards of safety per assigned department.

Meet minimum standards of housekeeping per assigned department.

Clean equipment as required.

Assembly or assist in the assembly of each component per assigned department. Run air and power hand tools. Read and interpret shop orders.

Meet all QA and QC standards for each assembly task per assigned department. Insure parts are assembled per instructions for proper appearance and function.

Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.

Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed into the proper container(s).

Maintains all satellite and storage containers in a closed position unless adding or removing waste.

Familiar with Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.

Knows spill response procedures and evacuation routes.

A - (additional duties and responsibilities)

Assist in training entry level and "B" level employees per assigned department.

Master - (additional duties and responsibilities)

  • Assist in training entry level and "A" level employees per assigned department.
  • Perform any jobs within either of the two lines of Electrical and Options or Floors
  • Troubleshoot and assist with problem resolution.
  • Fill positions in any electrical, mechanical, or special installation position.

Qualifications/Training:

Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blue prints, assembly drawing, schematics and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.

Ability to read English and Metric tape measures and use measuring devices.

Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.

Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Must maintain a positive rating as described in the training/qualification evaluation record.

  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Be trained in Hazardous Materials Handling Operations with an annual refresher course.
  • Hazardous waste training shall be provided to employee within six months of the date the employee filled this position and a review of this training provided every 12 months thereafter. Employee shall be supervised until training is complete. This training will consist of at least 30 minutes of classroom instruction and additional on the job training as needed.
  • Training will include familiarization with roles as outlined in Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to sit and talk and hear. Other physical requirements include:

Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40#'s without assistance.

Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions.

Ability to work with arms above head.

Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding.

Ability to stand at a workstation for eight hours a day (minus specified breaks.)

Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.

Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.

Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Hand-Eye coordination.

Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste.

Ability to work in above 100-degree heat for excess of ten (10) hours per day.

Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

B -

  • None required

A -

Three (3) months minimum experience as Assembler "B" prior or acceptable training.

Master -

  • Mastered at least as Assembler B of all areas within the department.
  • Two (2) years minimum experience in bus assembly or acceptable training.

Personal Protective Equipment Recommended and/or Required:

Safety glasses.

Face shields.

Earplugs.

Work gloves.
